Roswell UFO Mural Has Been Stolen, Valued at $35,000+ Video

The UFO Festival over the weekend in Roswell was supposed to bring in a lot of business, but it brought in a thief as well.

About seven miles outside of Roswell there’s a UFO mural painted by John Cerney out of California.

"All of his murals run between $30-35,000,” said Dorrie Faubus-McCarty, the director of the Roswell Chamber of Commerce.

But this one was a gift to Roswell, serving as a reminder of the event that the city has become known for, the UFO that allegedly crashed 66 years ago Monday.

"Everyday people stop by and look at it," said Allen Holloway, who runs an oil and trucking business across the street.

The mural has been quite a catch, attracting the tourists coming in especially for the UFO Festival.

"They hop the fence, they take pictures with their family," said Holloway.

Missing Baby Alien and Mural Stolen from Roswell

But the anniversary isn’t all that Roswell had hoped for because this alien family is missing a member.

Between Friday evening and Saturday morning the baby mural was stolen.

"I was in shock because I can't believe that it would have already happened," said Mark Briscoe, the Manager of the UFO Museum.

The mural has only been up for two months.

"I’d hate to think it was because of the festival but apparently someone really wanted it," said Briscoe.

The city has asked the painter to make a new one. In the meantime, they are going to increase security around the paintings, and continue looking for the missing baby.

"I don't know what happened to him I just want someone to bring him home," said Faubus-McCarty.
